Verses Items of the week Double Cowgirl vs. Buchertail Mag Tinsel

VS

As Musky anglers know we love blades nomater if there on spinnerabaits, bucktails, or tinsel tails but no matter what one you like more they all have blades. This week we will compair the Double Cowgirl and the Bucher Mag Tinsel. These two baits on Performance Toughness and Price. To start these two baits are alike in so many ways its harder to pick out differnces that are big factors. To start they both have big blades # 10's in Colarado and a little more sleek fluted Colarado the Colarado gives off a big thump and the fluted gives of a bit more tickle to go with the thump but the fluted blades are easyer to pull. Next the wire both have about the same size wire but i would like to see both of them step up on there wire. Once this past year I had to re-bulid a Mag Tinsel after 5 fish but ill do that if it produces that number of fish. Next is the Tinsel they both flow great but i see the double Cowgirl move more tinsel in the front part of the skirt and the Bucher move more of the tinsel throughout the bait  but not as  much movement in one area, its all prefence. Both of these baits have strong tinsel but i seem to have more problems with tinsel pulling out from there ties. Finaly the cost and throughout this tough choice this is the easy part  at the Musky Shop a Double Cowgirl runs at 25$ when a Mag Tinsel is only 15$ once again its all personal prefence but I would rather throw a Mag Tinsel no matter what the price due to past history, hook quality, tougher tiensel and something differnt that the standerd Double Cowgirl.

The Little Things That Are The Big Things

  1. Boat Color- Befor buying a new boat take a look at the paint job and you have to think as a fish what looks more natural a white bottomed boat or a black blob above you with as many fish that are caught boat side your only putting one more thing in your favor to try and catch on of these mosters so next time your looking for a new musky rig look at the paint job and go with light natural colors like white, gray, blue, or light tan also look out for pin stripes on the side of the boat this can also be a factor in gettting that boat side strike.
  2. Your Gonna Wear That!???- once again with so many fish being use to these baits these fish like to fallow your bait this goes along with boat color wear nature color clothes your whites, grays, blues, tans, and other natural light colors fish can only see up unless the change there body possition so they will be watching your bait and you moving above the surface while doing your figure 8 it may sound redickulas but like i said befor it all the little things that add up.
  3. Dont Touch That!- If you think about it bucktails and the vibration they give off its the same thing with your trolling motor blades and there 3 times as big try to only turn on your trolling motor when your bait is in the air on a cast or keep it on consitlty so its even all the way past the fish dont do anything to eratic that could wreck your chances at that trophy yea all these things are all very small but these fish are getting so smart with all the incressed pressure there is nothing in my eyes that is to far out there.

Boat Necessities For The Serious Musky Hunter

As tecnolgy increases and GPS keeps inproving this can help the angler in so many differnt ways with GPS chips to show lake countour and bottom type anlong with weed growth. Being able to save tracks and mark spots with waypoints a Hummingbird sonar with side imagieing. Also a big trolling motor is needed get the biggest Minn-Kota that you can afford if posible one with auto polite to keep you heading in the right direction so you can focus on fishing more and dont be destracted by bad boat control. Also i belive every musky guy should have a kicker motor at least 9.9 Hp or more we fish some of the biggest in shore water and during the worst of condiction so to have a backup kicker motor to keep you from getting caught in a wave sideways and risking rolling your boat or causing major damage to your gear. These thing are not cheep to say the least but you can save money by buying used electroncs and motors.

Question's ??? Feel Free

Why Keep it?

In past years if you caught a musky as soon at it was braught to the boat a .22 or some kind of revolver was pointed at the head to shoot the fish. Even though these things are not done today un-informed anglers are still keeping trophy caliber fish. With what taxademits can do with repuclias there is no reason to keep a 50" fish that is 20 years old why not let the fish go so someone else can catch it? They look the same and you can get the satitcaftion of knowing that the fish you caught is still swimming.

Top 5 Musky Lakes in Wisconsin

  1. Green Bay - This body of water is only getting better the amount of water that these fish have to move is huge and the pressure is low untill fall comes around I belive that the next world record which  i believe will be here in the next 10 years will come out of Green Bay or the big 5 lakes in Minnesota.
  2. Chippewa Flowage - Not only was the world record pulled out of this body of water but the number of fish in this Flowage is way up due to great forage and great catch and release practices by anglers.
  3. Madison Chain - These 4 lakes are on the rise and you hear about them more and more every year anglers are figuring these fish out and hitting a home run with these fish that are pushing the 50" range.
  4. Pewaukee - This lake is in my opion on the down fall 10 years ago this lake was on fire with numoris fish over 50" and 35+ pounds but with high amounts of pressure and more fish being kept over the years the avrage size has droped and this kills this once great body of water.
  5. Okauchee - This lake is alot like Pewaukee it had its time to shine im not saying a 50" fish cant be caught out of here I've seen them but they are getting tougher and tougher to catch these fish have seen it all and the lake sadly is on the down fall.

The # 1 Reel On The Market

As the big blade craze is still on the rise bigger and lower gear ratio reels are needed and Abu garcia has come out with the perfict combination of speed power and smothness this reel is not a cheep but at 280$ but it was one of the best things i have ever bought and is a must have for the hard core musky guys.

Getting Started

Like all things this sport is not cheep to get started. First of all you will need a rod and reel that is able to handle these size of fish i would recomend a 8 foot Medium Hevy St.Croix Premier and a Pflueger Trion 66. Also 80 Pound Power Pro braid and a 100 pound florcarben leader. Lures there are so many to choose from there are thousands of lures for these fish and they are not cheep at all. There are so many to choose from the the best all around bait would have to be a 700 buchertail or a Buchertail mag tinsel. These bait are best over shallow weeds and rocks in early summer and fall.
